This fighter only generates enough power to fly until it engages the enemy. The Reverse Inductor will generate enough power per second to run the focused laser. The blueprint will say 'power may be unstable', but it works. Good dps, without the need to get ammo. Flies for about 15 minutes. Constructive criticism welcome. It might need more armor.
RavingManiac @ April 28, 2011, 4:17 am
One possible problem is the the reverse inductor and rack mount may occupy more space than a power generator of the same capacity. You could just completely replace the laser with inductors and try to disable the energy ship by draining all its power. If you're fighting ships which use weapons that can one-shot anything at scale 0.5, it would be a better idea to put no armor on the fighter, since less weight means better acceleration and dodging chance.
Chargolith @ April 28, 2011, 6:49 am
I did tinker with just using a more powerful generator, but you pretty much have to use AM to get the power necessary to fire the focused laser. The problem was that the price shot up and the risk of chain explosions from the AM. I might be doing something wrong with inductors, when I built a few dozen of these with just powerful inductors, they absorbed tons of power, but it didn't affect the target ship at all.
Chargolith @ April 30, 2011, 7:22 pm
A couple warnings. At lower tech levels occasionally the laser will use just a bit too much power for some reason and kill the fighter, just increase the capacitor to .5. Also, RavingManiac is right, drop the armor, it is kinda pointless, the extra speed is nice.

Sorry to keep commenting, but something else I learned about Inductors...they don't seem to work on ships powered by Solar Panels. I don't know if this is a bug or not, but it sounds like it. When I used 80 of these on a scale 40 ship with an AM generator, they killed it by power absorption in about 5 seconds.
TheOne @ May 15, 2011, 1:17 pm
It depends what the solar panels are powering, the reason most ships shut down is because the life support/Computer core relys on power, but if its a control-less ship, then no power will just mean it cant use whatever it is the power is....powering. But anyway its a nice design with a few tweaks, i couldnt get inductors to work well at small scale.

I would recommend putting backup generators w/ a computer core. This way your control power will be independent from your weapons systems, Then it won't matter if you run out of power.
CaseMonster @ June 28, 2011, 12:26 am
I have similar designs that have 2 separate power systems. When you run out of power/fuel the ship will still float. You can run tankers out to fill it back up and you don't lose anything. Especially helpful with larger, more expensive ships
Superking @ July 27, 2011, 3:08 pm
armor is useful if the fighter is likely to encounter enemy fighters, IIRC a recent patch means fighters always have a high hit chance VS fighters iiregardless of acceleration

CaseMonster, this is a scale 0.50 fighter. It has no business being redundant, because you can't put enough HPs on a fighter for redundancy to matter.
